Our first vacation with Sawyer Denise was a success! I think vacationing with a newborn might be way easier than a 1 or 2 year old, but I don't know that for sure. We plan on going to Disney when she's almost 1, so I'll let y'all know. Daniel and I love taking a few vacations a year, and for this one we went with Daniel's sister and brother in law. They have a 5 month old and a 3 year old, so it was quite the party! Daniel's other sisters came down for a day at the beach, which was so fun for all his siblings to be there. Hopefully we will all be able to get together for another trip soon! Vacationing with friends/family is so much more fun. Daniel and I tend to get a little bored if it's just the two of us.
The car trip down was much better than expected. We left at about 7:30, stopped at my parents to drop off Obi, feed Sawyer again, and head out. Luckily Sawyer pretty much went to sleep right away, and we stopped at Buccees at about 11 for lunch, gas, restrooms, and to feed Sawyer. I fed her and gave her a little awake time before we left! She proceeded to sleep until we got to the condo at 2.
We stayed at the Galvestonian, because that's where Mark and Ashley have stayed before! Literally the best decision ever, even though it was a little more expensive than other options. In Galveston pretty much nothing is directly on the beach bc of the Seawall, but the Galvestonian is. That's a must have for vacationing with a baby. No way am I walking across a street lugging all our baby stuff.
Ashley and Mark even gave us the room with a beach front balcony because they're the best and so selfless! (Y'all can have the better room next time, promise!) I love staying in a condo because we had a kitchen and a big living room to spread out in, but still had a cleaning person to make the bed and give us fresh towels.
We went to the pool, spent time at the beach, and went out for dinner each day. Sawyer pretty much slept the whole time at the beach, but had lots of fun in the pool. Sadly we didn't have the Otteroo yet, so we just held her in the pool mostly. Most floats are still a little too big for her since she doesn't have full head control yet.
Ashley and Mark have been to Galveston so many times that they're experts on where to eat/shop. We took their advice and had some amazing meals! My favorites were The Spot and Millers. Also, Murdochs is an awesome store with a balcony overlooking the ocean with fun rocking chairs and a little bar. I could've sat there all day.
I'm so glad we went with Ashley and Mark because having another nursing mama, and other babies there made me feel so much more comfortable. Plus matching cousin outfits are the best, and are definitely holding me over until we have another baby! 🤣
The BEST part of the trip was riding bikes one evening. We had so much fun exploring the beach houses, and spending time together. It really is the simple things that bring so much joy.
