Praying for Sawyer has come easy. Daniel and I've prayed for her since before we knew we were pregnant. My prayers consisted of "please give us a child" and "give us a healthy baby." Lately I've been praying that she sleeps well, and becomes an independent confident child. All of these are real things that I will continue to pray for, but I felt like I was missing something. I received the book Praying the Scriptures For Your Children from a coworker, and started reading it recently. It hit me like a ton of bricks that the things I have been praying for are so temporary. They aren't eternal. Jodie Berndt talks about praying specific scriptures over your children. Praying the word of God over your children ensures that your prayers are aligned with God's will!
I'm starting to incorporate scriptures into my prayers for Sawyer, and would encourage every parent to do the same. Jodie's book begins with prayers for your child's salvation. Salvation trumps health, happiness, and success every time so I'm making it my number one priority in prayer. I know that the challenge lies in the time it may take for her to accept Jesus Christ! It could be 6, 10, 18, or 30 years, but I'm prepared to pray for salvation for all of my babies regardless of how long it takes.
