World Breastfeeding Week

I've teamed up with Nanobebe to share my heart for Breastfeeding Awareness Week! The theme for World BreastfeedingWeek is "Breastfeeding: The Foundation of Life". How powerful of a statement is that? God created breastfeeding to give life! Even though breastfeeding is a fundamental part of humanity, it still seems so foreign to many people. I wish I knew when the shift took place. I wish we could identify the moment and reasons that breastfeeding became taboo, and change it!

Those first few days, weeks, and months of breastfeeding are crucial to ensure that a mom will stick to it. If she doesn't have success she will look for support, if she doesn't get support she will inevitably quit. As always fed is best, but if we can encourage mamas to continue breastfeeding their babies then we should. 

This week actually coincides with me heading back to work. Breastfeeding mamas already have so much on their plate then add in a full time career, and anyone would be worn out. So many moms switch to formula when they return to work because honestly it's hard to take time out of your busy day to pump. Especially if you have a job that you have to stop doing to pump. This may be different if you are able to sit at a desk and continue working, but I teach so I have to stop what I'm doing and go to a private room. 

As a breastfeeding mama, Sawyer got very few bottles while I was home for the first four months. She has been with me almost 24/7 since I had her, and breastfeeding consistently instead of using a pump and bottle has made me fall in love with that time together! I know that she also prefers the boob, and I want her getting ALL the nutrients from breastmilk. Nanobebe has specifically designed their bottles with the breastfed baby in mind. What baby wouldn't love a bottle shaped like a boob!!!! 

Although the breast shape is the most noticeable difference in the nanobébé bottle, they've created a superior bottle that retains all the nutrients of breastmilk! Spending hours pumping means that I want that "liquid gold" to be just as good when it gets to Sawyer as when it came out of me!
